David had a very varied
early career in the Gunners. Following commissioning his frist appointment was in 12 Anti-Tank Regiment in Dortmund where he earned his Horse Gunner Jacket and as a consequence was moved to join 2 RHA then based in Hildesheim. He was to serve as an instructor at Mons OCS, completed the staff course and was eventually posted to 42 Field regiment RA where he was to make many lifelong friends. His service with Regiment and latterly at HQ Near East Land Forces in Cyprus was to stand him in good stead later in his career.
In 1963 David was selected to join 7 Para RHA in Aldershot.
Took command of G Para Battery (Mercers Troop) RHA.
Most recently was instrumental in securing the actual sabre that Capt Mercer carried at the Battle of waterloo. It now takes pride of place at the Royal Artillery Museum at Woolwich.
David retired in 1968 to farm in Dorset.
